Someone once suggested filling eggs with mustard.

I saw a post once where they built a corner to go thru the pop door. One person took a piece of plywood and and set it into the ground about 8-12" in front of the pop door so the chickens could get in, but not the dog. Another attached a tunnel with a 90 degreee corner in it (I've been thinking of doing this for a wind break) to the pop door. It took her chooks awhile to get used to it, but a trail of cracked corn helped and they all figured it out in a couple of days.

Good luck, my mutt loves eggs too, but as long as she's just getting the rare barnyard egg and stays out of the coop I don't worry too much about it.

most dogs can be broke easily of eating eggs... and I stress most... Its not nice, nor is it pretty but it does work.

Get a needle and syringe. Any farm store will do, just get the smallest diameter needle you can.

Get a jar of habernaro peppers from the grocery store. Inject a couple CC's (if there is room, if not suck out some egg white first) of the juice the peppers are packed in. Then seal the hole with a drop of wax. Do this with a few of them at a time. Then place one immediately out the door. Place the next one closer to the coop and keep doing this till the dog starts to associate the eggs with the chickens.

Not only will it break him of being an egg suck dog, but he'll also stear clear of the hens nest areas. Gotta be careful here with large breed dogs that are prone to twisting in their gut tho.

Don't be surprised if it only takes 1 or 2 eggs to work. Also, may want to keep some fresh milk handy for when you've watched the pooch have enough. Water will make it worse, milk will quench the fire a bit.

Some of the earlier ideas may work. But he's a puppy. And they are "puppies" until about the age of 3. My suggestion is you invest in a training collar. Commit time to him. Say one weekend to work specifically on this. Every time he goes to the coop and steals the egg. You will have ti let him steal the egg at first so he knows that's the bad behavior. Then you will have to set bounderies. Where do you want him to Never go? Being so young, he will learn quickly. This is the PERFECT age to start your training. I wish you luck. It will work.

that no chew stuff never worked for me either...if given the chance, I have 4 egg thieves...I made the mistake of leaving the bucket of collected duck eggs inside the back door one afternoon while doing something else, went to retrieve the eggs and they were all gone...my oldest dog had eaten 14 duck eggs, shells and all...I was really worried about her but she managed to process them with no indoor mishaps...the 16 month old has stolen 2 off the table in the tool shed...I thought I had put them far enough back that she would not see them and take them...silly me...all eggs are collected and trooped to the kitchen sink now...I can't trust any of my dogs to leave them alone...fortunately they have no access to the duck or chicken yards...
