So I'm starting construction on a duck coop and I am new to all things carpentry so forgive me for not knowing terminology! I am going to make my coop 7 ft by 7 ft, with the back wall being 4 ft and the front wall being either 6 or 8 ft tall. I am going to do a lean to roof and I'm struggling with figuring out rise and run and what would be appropriate, we sometimes get snow but the larger concern is rain. What should I do!?!

Make sure your roof is slanted so the wind side is not the open side.

If the open side is fully open, you don't have to worry about ventilation. Otherwise, put openings near the roof and make sure your roof overhangs the ventilation openings. If your set up allows water to get into the coop, make sure you can rake out the bedding after the rain so it can dry out.

Also, ducks don't really mind rain.

6' would be sufficient. Optimum would be a 4/12, (4" per foot) which would be 28" of rise. Is there a reason you're going with 7x7? 8 ' Standard lumber would be easier...
