Hello, today I gave my two Peking males away to a farmer because I was told that it could harm my female runner eventually from over mating. She's quite a bit smaller and they were all raised from ducklings together. I kept them in a 4x4 feet pool in the house. In return I acquired another female runner for a companion for her. Now my female is very sweet and has imprinted on me. The new one wants no part of me or my female runner. She is hiding in back of my dresser and won't come out. My female keeps calling for my two males that I gave away today. She's very stressed out and I'm wondering if the new duck will warm up to her? I was going to eventually put them outside in a coop I bought. I placed the new duck in the area mine sleeps and she immediately jumped out and has hidden since. Won't even come out to drink or eat. I'm worried if I made the wrong choice now.

I think you should give her time , everything is new and strange .

We say with our dog boarding kennel
“ the first day doesn’t count “ meaning the first day is a time to adjust and get comfortable.

Give them both time ,
Treats and some outdoor time together might help ,

Have fun it will work out

I know I won't have the same duck as my female. As I hand raised her and she's used to being handled. The new one was free ranging in a flock of 20 so she's not used to human contact at all. I'm almost worried to bring the new one outside for fear I won't be able to get her back in the house. Or it will stress her out bad. When I finally picked her up today she went limp with fear.

It's going to take time... how old is the new one?
Believe me... fancy was almost 3 months before the first time I remember him actually cuddling into me for protection that wasn't at bedtime. And I got him at 3 weeks old and he was terrified of humans. It just took time and patience. Don't do the outdoor time unless you have a pen or some place to keep them contained.
I kept mine inside because anytime fancy got outside, he scared me to death because he wouldn't come out from under the house. I had to take speedy out to call him out and to her and toss a blanket on him, so I could get him back in the house. I dont know when exactly it happened but that big baby eventually became my cuddlebug and bonded to both speedy and I. He watched out for her when I wasn't home. He let me know when she hurt her bill and was trying to hide it by poking her until I saw it.
It'll take time and a lot of patience - meal work treats... even if you gently toss them in her direction while yours eats out of your hand.
I had those hermit crab shrimp food for their baths, they loved them and eventually would dive bomb for them when I got the container out.

I worried for almost a week I had made the wrong decision by getting fancy because he was so scared of me... that's how he got his name - flight of fancy, he'd climb up to snuggle in when he thought I was sleeping, but the moment I was awake he was off and running.

The new female runner is 3 months old and mine is 1 1/2 months so they aren't that far apart. Thank you so much that actually makes me feel so much better because I was really worried. She's still behind the dresser hasn't moved at all. My female has kept calling so I comforted her and let her lay on my lap for a while. I'm hoping tomorrow she will come out to get something to drink and eat. I just want the new one to feel safe and know I'm not going to hurt her. She's had a very stressful day with being separated from her flock and being put in the car then coming here. I'm fortunate because my female is so tame. She loves going on car rides and follows me everywhere. She will also take treats from me. I will try to put some meal worms out for her to maybe coax her out

It was so hard for me getting rid of my 2 male pekings because they all were so attached to each other. Then hearing her call for them makes me feel guilty. I'm just hoping she will make friends with the new female soon!

Have you checked behind the dresser to make sure she's not stuck? You might have to kinda force her out because she really needs water and shouldn't be without it for longer then 4 hours. Try to put her in some kind of enclosure that will keep her safe and where you can put down food and water for her.
