In the short time (3wks) I've been a duck mama to two 8wk old cayuga ducklings I've been reading this forum nonstop! I figured I'd better get on board and meet my other fellow poultry lovers.

To be honest - I barely know what I'm doing. Barbe and Ed aren't sexed yet and I have all the questions and concerns of a nervous new mom of teenagers - why don't they like cuddles (I got them at 2wks and probably missed the imprinting window)? How can I tell if my brooder is too small? When should they really be in their duck house? Why is one of them taking an aggressive stance with my 20lb dog - maybe Ed is showing early signs of drakeness? I dunno people but I'm super glad I have a space to ask all these questions! Hello, and welcome to BYC! Glad you joined!

Could you post a few pictures of their brooder? Pictures of their duck house? What are the high/lows averaging your area?

Likely too young to be showing any real hormonal aggression, ducklings can sometimes be "nippy" towards other animals, not that uncommon. :)

Welcome to BYC. Ducks and Chickens are programmed to know everything wants to eat them. To them a dog (even a small one) is considered a serious predator. Often to dogs & cats they seem like the perfect toy. They make noises and run/fly when they are frightened. Animals give chase. When birds end up dead the cat or dog loses interest :hit
