New Duck Mom

Well they have officially discovered the joys of playing in their water bowl and I can't handle the cuteness. They're taking turns hopping in, splashing around, then running around the brooder.

(PS - the water is a grungy color because of the electrolytes I mixed in, and I'm planning to make them a different kind of waterer soon as I think they'll outgrow this one really fast)

Shouldn't need the probiotics regularly? Mine were fine and they shipped from CA to WI (minus my Darla with a crookedspine but pretty sure that was genetic) and they are just over a year old and happy. But the electrolytes are probably good for the first day since they are probably stressed out. Work to teach them to come when you call by pairing your call (I whistle) when ever you come by with treats. Always make your call while giving treats. Soon they will run to you once they hear you. Wait until they are about a week old to start treats in small amounts. Mine LOVED and still do frozen pans and carrots

The flock raiser I'm feeding them says on the bag that it has probiotics in it already, so I didn't get them any additional probiotics. It's amazing that baby birds can manage being shipped like that! My partner has an order of Easter Eggers being shipped in the next couple weeks, the ducklings I was able to find locally.

That's a good idea on calling them to give treats - that's what I do with my horses :) A whistle means dinner time so they always come running to it. I'll have to try the peas and carrots next week (they're still only about 48 hours old). Do you need to thaw the veggies first or do they like them still frozen?
