I brought home 5 ducks today. I have raised ducks before, like 12 years ago. Back then i never had a coop for them just an old dog house in a hog panel pen. Now I have chickens and coops. The chickens just got a new coop so now the ducks have a duck house. Ive never had adult ducks before. What kind of nest do i need for them? Will they fly out of the pen? I will take pics tomorrow as im not sure of their breed. i am thinking swedish.... thanks everyone.

Swedish are unlikely to fly out of a coop, being a domestic breed, they are too heavy to get very far. AS for a nest, a small plastic container filled with hay works for some, but also some ducks will still lay on the ground no matter how elaborate the nest provided is.

And case you havent remembered from keeping ducks from years ago, Ducks need water deep enough to dip the faces into to keep their eyes and nostrils clean. They dont need a swim every day, but making sure they can keep their faces clean is still important. Look forward to seeing pics of your new ducks soon.

Yea I remember the needing to dip their heads. What kind of food do you feed them. Previously I had fed mazuri waterfowl. I currently feed my chickens gamebird grower that is 18% protien. I could switch to flockraiser but I don't like crumbles. what do you sugest?
