Hi. I got 2 Aylesbury ducklings who are now 4.5 weeks old. Sadly one died yesterday, during the night. They are fed on duckling crumb, kept clean and provided clean water for drinking and splashing in. I started to put them out for a run round garden 3 days ago because they were growing so quick and getting too big for their pen in my kitchen (next to a radiator). They seemed to love running around exploring and I started setting up their outdoor enclosure (a 10' diameter round enclosure converted from a trampoline frame). After their first day in the garden they were brought in for the night and seemed perfectly fine next day and happy to go outside again. Again they came in for night but one was dead in the morning and the other seems to have pushed it half way out of their bed area. They usually slept snuggled up together. The remaining duckling is still strong, eating and drinking ok and cleaning itself ok. But its breathing is audible and I am worried I have caused them to be ill somehow. Weather is UK spring weather, not cold but not that warm either. They are kept clean and dry as possible. :(

Hi :welcome from Yorkshire UK

Glad you could join the flock! Sorry to hear you lost one of ducklings :hugs I'm not a duck person but do you think they could have picked something up from outside? Something harmfull to them but that you don't know about? This is just a thought so I would post in the duck section for all the duck experts to help you out on this. Here is the link https://www.backyardchickens.com/f/42/ducks
I'm sure they will be able to help you.

Good luck with your remaining duckling and enjoy BYC :frow

Good morning and welcome to BYC!

I'm sorry you lost one of your ducklings. I've never had ducks before but @Kelsie2290 has given you a good link to post to, hopefully you find an answer for what happened.

Are you going to get another duckling to keep your lone one company?

Best of luck to you.
