new duck parents help/tips

from what I've read I'm not supposed to release em back or something not 100%....but also the other 2 have already dissapeared when left to do nothing soo didnt realy feel like leaving this 1 to the same fate

Were the others just roaming around with no mom? And are you keeping her inside now?

I would find a rehabber who can take this duckling an raise it so it can go back in the wild when ready.

yes there were 3 just showed up under my carport while working on my car didn't pay any mind besides showing my wife looked for the mom but nothing then left em alone they left came back the next day 1 missing still didn't really do anything but played around making some noises and they reacted and came to me an hour later had em hoping all over me 1 wouldnt leave the other did but hasn't returned so brought the remaining 1 in and been trying to do what I can to help it......

Oh ok. Have you looked for the other two? They might not have made it this far without there mom. Still worth looking for in my opinion. Do you have a brooder setup yet?

Way to young to survive on its own with out a mama or you!are you planning on keeping it. to have made it with out their mama that’s great you saved one. What are your plans for this little one most likely it won’t be able to be set free if your going to care for it. Once they are bonded to humans they depend on us to care for them. @ThreeOfSeven has wood ducks and can advise on their care as far as feeding etc.

well at first I wasnt but I believe it has imprinted so figured I could do what I can for now im an animal person soo it goes against my nature to do nothing but yes my biggest thing is feeding I guess thanks for the link I'll keep checking

It looks not to be more than a few days old..if so it will most likely imprint on you. The fact that you only have one once it imprints it will get stressed without you there or not in it’s safe location. I would get it a little “house” with some shavings feed water and a heat lamp that it can get away from if it wants to. Ducks are very social animals, they live much happier lives if they have a friend...something to consider. Most ducks I believe you can’t start on a chick starter as long as it is NOT medicated. This duck will most likely be able to fly when it’s older so you will either need to teach it how to get it’s own food if you plan on letting it leave or go through the ways of not having it leave. Give it a very shallow dish with water that it can play in...they LOVE it. They also need to be able to blow out their nasal cavities so this will aid in that as well! Enjoy the little one they are very special animals!

thanks alot hope to make tons of memories but yes way past the imprint part lol I cant even lift it off my shoulder to stretch without it (chirping?) and jumping everywhere to get back
