Hi Ticks... long time no see.
Did you get these ducks when they were babies? How old are they now?
Now, I've never had ducks until this May. I raised them in the house and when I let them go outdoors at dusk they would be waiting by the back door to be let back in to sleep in their cage.
I then took my dog cage when they got bigger and put it in the garage and started locking them in there at night. So sure enough.... in the dog cage in the garage they'd go at dusk.
Then I decided to try them with the chickens once they got big and so now, they head off and put themselves to bed at night with the chickens. It's pretty funny.
I mean, define skittish? I mean, even my ducks quack and walk away from me when I approach them but like the others said, a long stick of some sort is good to use as a corral...that's how I get stubborn chickens back in the coop from time to time. I just kind of wave it like a blind mans cane and if they go more to the right and I want them left....then I block the right.....then they veer to far left, then quick change and put the stick on the left....all the way back to the coop and in they go.
You did good.
me,
gretch
