We just recently adopted what I believe to be a blue runner from a lady in our town. The duck was treated just as a dog would be, sleeping inside and being walked on a leash up until a few weeks ago. They town made her get rid of the duck (whose name is Mouse) so I took her in to add to our flock of 2 rouens and 2 roman tufted geese.
This duck is TERRIFIED of the other ducks and geese, I mean will literally run and quack and hide either by us or whatever she can get under. They don't hurt her or pick on her, in fact one of the geese seems to guard the duck house while she is in it.
This is only the 2nd day we have had her, but last night as we were finishing up with dinner, she made her way from the pond up to the porch and was quacking at the screen door! We went out in the yard and I gave her some of the duck food we have, and she was not interested at all. She kept pecking at my husband and he asked her " are you hungry?" she went nuts! quacking and pecking even more! so he told her ok lets get you a snack, he walked into the house and she literally chased him in there while he got her some cantaloupe...which she literally devoured it!
I asked the people what they had been feeding her... DOG FOOD and watermelon! That's it!!!
I guess my question is, what do I do?! Im sure she needs all the nutrients from the duck food, but wont eat it. She does seem to loose feathers more than I think is normal....
