I have 6 chickens that are 11 months old and doing wonderfully! So great in fact, that I ordered four more due to arrive the week of 4/6. So last weekend went to TSC and Agway for supplies and there were ducklings. Needless to say, I couldn't resist! I am now the happy, proud owner of 2 Khaki Campbells - sex undetermined. (How soon will that become apparent?)

My husband and sons built an awesome 6' x 5' coop and 6' x 10' run for the chicks, so building something for the ducks won't be difficult just looking for some pics/guidleines/helpful hints. Most I see appear low to the ground, most without a ramp or at least it is very low. Definitly will build a run for their protection when I am not home (do let the hens roam daily). Also will include in their run area a small pool or pond.

Questions:
Concrete in run area? Seems easy to hose off.

Pea gravel covered with sand? Seems like that would help cut down on mud all the time.

Grass? Will they just destroy it?

Any good combination of ideas?

Will they prefer a nest box or just straw on floor of their coop?

Thanks in advance for guidance and help and any links to pictures of duck coop designs!
