I went to a swap meet today, sold 8 silkys but had to buy these ducks!! the yellow one with the boof hair is Delbert, and the brown Kakhi is Tince I think they both may be female but had to name the white one Delbert because it looks just like my uncle Delbert....now they seem to have imprinted on this little silky roo the only one I didnt sell. So they are housing with it. I have a fiberglass bathtub that we just took out of the house. Can I put it in the pen (10x10 dog run) fill it with water and pond plants with steps up to it for the ducks?? I have river plants the arrow leaf ones, and cat tails, and parrot feather (?) growing in my gold fish pond that I need to get rid of. I dont want the ducks in the front yard so I will take the plants out and put them in the tub for the ducks to eat and swim around. Does this sound like a good idea??
I was told the brown one will lay lots of eggs, neither have curly tail feathers so hopefully they are both female. I was told they are 2 to 3 months old, I have never owned ducks before so any info will help. Can I feed them chick grower now that I feed the silky??

They look like a crested Pekin and a Khaki Campbell to me.

See if you can get a copy of Storey's Guide to Raising Ducks, and perhaps The Ultimate Pet Duck Guidebook.

The grower should be fine. If they are outdoors where they can get bugs and slugs and fresh greens, sounds like they will have a good diet. Check out the sticky on duck treats. All the duck stickies are helpful.

The tub sounds good, any ramp needs to be 30% or less for ducks. They may eat the plants up pretty quickly, or not, depends on their personalities. Ducks are famous for nomming plants down to mud.

They are extremely susceptible to predators, so be sure to protect them especially at night.

They need to be able to wash their heads, so if they are reluctant to use the tub, be sure they have a big pot of water for head washing (avoids eye ear and sinus infections, which can be ugly and at worst, fatal).

Watch for bumblefoot, make sure they get pah-lenty of calcium for their egg shells.

I like to give the occasional vitamin-electrolyte-probiotic mix in their water for a boost.

Congrats on your new charges, and agree 100% with what Amiga said. Have fun they are a joy.
Ditto on the joy!

The lady I bought them from gave me the storey book I am just enthralled with them!!! I put them up last night in the chicken coop and will do so every night, I have been live trapping coons and possums like crazy this year, they eat the cat food off my front porch. I need to really work with them they are very people skiddish. But what a better reason not to do house work!! " Oh sorry honey I had to sit with the ducks today" LOL!!!
Thanks for the input!!!!
