New Ducks

Answered an ad on Craigslist for 3 Runner Ducks. This is what I ended up with.

Pulled up in their yard and seen a duck flying across the backyard, and the lady told me the had just started flying 2 days before. I'm thinking ok, runners do not fly across the backyard. (She did not know anything about ducks. She rescued them from someone that was not taking very good care of them. He told her they were runners) Ended up with them anyhow. Two are Muscovy I know, but what color are they considered? Also, could the black one actually be a runner duck? Or is she a Cayuga?

I think the black one is a Black Swedish duck, but I'm not sure.

the black one is a cayuga (he/she's got the green sheen- black Swedish don't have that).

Cayugas and swedish are both heavier. I think that duck is a pet or hatchery quality black runner. Look at the shape of the head and neck.

Here is my cayuga girl. See how her legs are shorter and the head and neck shape are broader?

Black swedish are a little heavier. So im sticking with black runner.


Here is my pet quality f/w runner, lol, see how heavy he is? Yours is a better pet quality than spotacus but that doesnt make them any less wonderful

She is all black with the green sheen.(In the pictures it looks like a small spot of white on her head, but that's because she is missing feathers) I was leaning more towards possible runner because she has a more upright stance than my other ducks. In the pictures I think she was trying to hide behind the Muscovies so it is harder to see the skinny body and long neck.


BTW Goat_Walker you have some gorgeous ducks!
