Norco, CA
I seem to have some sort of wierd attraction to chickens. Moved to Norco in Aug of 08, I have one hen, she was a rescue, that had been hit by a trash truck. My hubby works in the trash industry and it has been very good to us. TRASH IS GOOD! I had the chicken thing before getting the hen. I'm getting the coop this week and very excited to get started. What do I do? Any input will be great.

I'm pretty new to the chicken thing myself, but wanted to say hello. Best of luck with your hen, and it was nice of you to take her in.

Norco is in Southern California, Riverside County. Looking to obtain some chickens locally. Eggs! I'm not ready for eggs! Would rather start with chickens ready for the coop.

Hey In2! My chickens are in Norco... You needing more chickens? I maybe could spare you a couple of future broodies, or a chick or two, or some eggs if you need to practice hatching some... Welcome!

DH works in Riverside and I work in San Bernardino.

What do I do? Any input will be great.

The best advice I can give for your new coop, etc is LOTS of shade and LOTS of water! Especially for heat like we had last weekend!

As long as your coop is draft free with good ventilation, has nests and perches, access to a run with food and water somewhere for them...you should be good! You may need to cover the run to protect from hawks (depending on your area).
