My bantam Cochin pullet started laying Monday. She layed one egg then and yesterday but nothing today. Is that normal? She's not acting any differently than normal. TIA!

Brand new egg layers still have to get their rear in the gear. They will lay off and on for the first 2 weeks to 1 month of their lives. It's all part of them developing. I wouldn't worry. :yesss:

Lol! "Their butts in gear!" Great way to put it. Thanks for the info! I feel much better now knowing my chicken isn't broke! :ya:clap:yesss::thumbsup:highfive:

It does take time for new layers to get their systems in working order. That being said, Cochins aren't high production layers so don't expect an egg every day from them.

Ok! Thank you! I'll keep that in mind! I was thinking they weren't considered productive bc they went broody so often. But -just being sure I understand- they actually don't lay daily even when not broody, right? If that's the case that won't bother me. I only have two bantams and they are really just pets for my girls. Between my 9 total we should be able to get the eggs my little fam eats from them once the bigger girls start laying. (I hope anyways) thanks!

Don't be concerned. I just went through all this for the first time this summer with 10 hens. Some laid and pretty much didn't miss a beat, but most took days off regularly for the first month after laying. I even had 4 or 5 "rubber egg" incidents, but all that gets worked out with time and proper nutrition...

Thank you so much! I'm feeling optimistic again and hoping to see a new egg in the nest tomorrow! Fingers crossed!
