Brand new egg layers still have to get their rear in the gear. They will lay off and on for the first 2 weeks to 1 month of their lives. It's all part of them developing. I wouldn't worry.![]()
It does take time for new layers to get their systems in working order. That being said, Cochins aren't high production layers so don't expect an egg every day from them.
Don't be concerned. I just went through all this for the first time this summer with 10 hens. Some laid and pretty much didn't miss a beat, but most took days off regularly for the first month after laying. I even had 4 or 5 "rubber egg" incidents, but all that gets worked out with time and proper nutrition...
