I am new to this and just signed up today. I have buff orpington hens and cinnamon Queens hens. They are about 12 weeks old. I found two eggs in the chicken coop yesterday. Seems a little early to me. Does anyone know if this is normal? I have not made any nest for them they were just laying on the floor.

I have 7 laying hens and four young pullets. Two of the pullets were hatched the around March 27, 2018 and the other two about a month later. For the past four days I've found a very small egg in the nesting box. The egg is about 1/4 the size of the medium to large eggs I get from my older hens. The two pullets hatched in March are a Maran and an ISA Brown. The eggs are a light brown color. Could they be laying this soon...16-17 weeks old? If so, why so many really small eggs?

At 16-17 weeks it could be your ISA Brown. When they first start laying their eggs can be pretty small. They will get bigger with time. There is a whole lot of random weird stuff that you can find with new layers. Shell less eggs. Giant double yolkers. It takes a while before they settle into their rhythm.

I bought these chickens a day after they were hatched. The first three eggs were small and they are all brown and I know they're coming from my cinnamon Queens which I have two of. I actually picked up one of my cinnamon queens and she was sitting on it the egg and it was bigger than the first 3.
At 12 weeks old, no not going to happen. Is someone playing a practical joke on you?

Out of curiosity, how big and what color are those eggs? Are you sure they are chicken eggs?

Very cute!

They look older than 12 weeks to me.

Congratulations on the eggs!
