Welcome to BYC! I would recommend leghorns.New member here... 2 questions for your expertise!
Looking to add 6-8 chicks to my 2 yr old backyard flock of Brahams & Australorps (both awesome breeds - they all get along GREAT!)
Wondering if anyone knows of farm/breeders in New England who will sell female day old chicks. MA, RI, CT, NH, VT ME.
(I'd love to have a rooster for nature's sake, but it is not allowed in my town).
I'm looking for Salmon Favarolles, Ameraucanas, Orpingtons, Wyandottes, RIR, C - no silkies or bantams - I like the heavier birds - we live on the ocean with very cold freezing winters. And, I like to chat and garden with girls - I don't want any nervous (or aggressive) nellies ruining the party.
I'd love to avoid sending chicks thru the mail if possible.
I live north of Boston and I'm willing to drive a few hours for pick up.
Also, would love to hear what breeds everyone would recommend to add to my flock for neighborhood-CSA egg sales. I'm trying to build a "market garden" on my 1/2 acre and would love to include fancy eggs...
Thanks for the input!
