The Sticks in VT - you must live right next door, as I am in the sticks of NH. No not really, I live in Walpole, NH - just across the river from Bellows Falls, VT and 30 minutes north of Keene.

Question for you NE'ers - I really, really, really want to get my chicks in February but my chickie friends keep saying "Don't order until April," but then they won't be laying until fall and I would love to get them started earlier.

Have any of you had chicks shipped in the cold of winter?

Nice to know there are some cold weathered chickaholics out there.

yes, get them when you want. and if something terrible happens the hatchery will replace them. i have ordered in feb it should be fine.

i ordered mine in nov so they would be laying in the spring.

If you order in the spring you will have no eggs in the summe until late august. Which is no fun when its really hot and you need to bring out food and water and get no eggs.

That was what I was feeling. As my riding season is pretty much down due to the footing I need a hobby - this is my first winter not working.

You mentioned South of Brattleboro - might that be Guilford? I am in Guilford most every Wednesday.

Tried to place my order with Ideal, but can't tell if it processed. I imagine that I will hear from them- asked for a ship date of Feb 25th.

I ordered my chicks in March or April but due to a "bad hatch" so Agway told me twice, I didn't get my chicks til June! They layed their first egg late October. I am now getting almost a dozen a day. I am south of Brattleboro in Vernon (can't you see the glow about me!

Oh I apologize, mzrea, I thought it was Tick that was in Southern VT. I am familiar with Vernon, are you getting you "glow" on? I looked at a little Morgan mare there a few yrs back - owned by a farrier and his wife, a young couple.

My husband is in Probation and Parole in Brattleboro and I ride over at Southmowing Stables in Guilford. So I am in your area often.

Nice to know there is someone fairly close by.

Anyone else iced in today? We were due to go back to school today but it was canceled due to freezing rain. It's supposed to change over to all rain soon.

I am dreading going out to the coops in this yucky weather. Guess I had better before the snow turns to rain and more ice.

I am counting the days to warm weather.
