Welcome to the new members!

Gosh, I haven't been on here in a while.
My husband is from the Cape but moved down here when we got together.

How gorgeous has this weather been? Okay, the last 2 days have been a little bit hot to work in outside but its still better than all that cold winter weather.
If we feel like complaining about the heat we can always go back a couple of pages and see how much we whined about the cold and the snow right.
Just remember to wear the sunscreen (wish I had, ouch) but won't forget again.
Today is actually cooler and just beautiful.
I have been working on a new fence around the vegetable garden and when thats done I am going to start on the pen for in front of the coop.
Got an awesome deal on the fencing. I went to Lowes and they had 8 foot sections on clearance because some of the pickets were broken but we bought an extra section to replace the broken pickets.
The wood is a little rough looking but once its all painted it won't matter, besides for what its being used for I am not that concerned about it.
I planted a 50 foot row of asparagus and 13 kinds of potatoes and have been cleaning up the yard in general, weeding and pruning shrubs etc.
I should finish all of my planting this weekend.
My son broke his hand just in time for the yard overhaul so I don't have as much help as I would have liked.
The girls come home from college next week for the summer and I am sure they will help.

HAHAHHAHAHAHHA

The bees have arrived and are tucked into their hives and working like crazy.

The chickens are laying up a storm with new ones coming into lay every week it seems.

I sold 12 dozen eggs at my bee club last night with more orders in for next week and a woman who owns a farm is having a festival next month and she approached me to ask if I would be willing to come sell eggs for the day and she said to sell them for....$6.00 a dozen!

Thats twice what I have been selling them for.
I made up some brown packages and then some rainbow ones, I have blue, green, white, ivory, speckled, brown and dark brown from my copper marans.
So the cartons looked really nice.

I almost fell over when she told me what they sell them for there but she didn't have any chickens in lay right now so she wants me to sell them for her and she said if I wanted I could actually do it on a regular basis there.
I told her I would come check it out the day of the festival and see how it goes and I would let her know.

Back to work, got some painting to do.
Have a nice day!

LOL! My oldest is in grad school in Paris, and my youngest is a junior at Vanderbilt U. Neither one will be home this summer ~ I think they started making summer plans away from home right around the time we sent them pics of all the ice storm damage that needed cleaning up.

I may never get my coop built.

I hear you loud and clear on complaining about the heat. I was out yesterday working on a chicken tractor and with a huge wave of wind, 1 skeeter and 5 black flies struck me! Well, I calmly smashed them and enjoyed it. Bug Spray bring it on!
Oh, and wearing dryer sheets work at bug repellents. I was at a summer gathering with no bug spray, so we sat in the middle of a "High end" Campground looking like we was heading for some religious function- ha ha, people walking by would look, then more people began to bring people by. omg it was really funny, but you know what- it worked.

Hey, I have a chicken problem, could you guys give me some thoughts on her? here is the BYC post I just left https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?pid=2073284#p2073284

Thanks
!

Hey Spook-how is your girl doing?

Has anyone had trouble with wild turkeys? They seem to be trying to sneak into the run when my girls are free ranging. I have read that I shouldn't mix turkeys with chickens or guineas. Will it be a problem if they are running in the same areas??
