awesome spook, that is a great idea, hope they have some ideas for us,

molt, well, how will i get her to do that,,lol the chicken that is, i did bathe her, and kate said she used a hairspray for black haired people for shine also, but mine doesnt have the shine or dk black coat to start with, so i have been giving her sunflower seeds, and what else?

here she is, i really have time to work on her for the fall show, help me please!!
she is from a good line, she has been shown before in another state, i feel as though i am letting her down.

oh and i am in need of a really nice black silkie roo for you know who, i hatched a few blues but one wasnt bearded and i hate that and the other ended up with gray in his hackle,i hate that, anyone in nh maine with a black roo, want a nice one, good toes good feathering etc

It's hard to force them to molt, they'll just do it when they're ready (which is usually at the most inconvenient times for us LOL). I've never used hairspray on mine, never even thought of it.. Be careful about giving too much sunflower seeds, they're very fatty and I dont feed too much during the summer, to prevent them from gaining weight. She looks kinda brownish, telling me she's prolly been in the sun too much. Hard to tell, but it looks like she has some broken foot feathers. I pull those out (along with any broken wing feathers) approximately 6-8 weeks before the show season starts, to give them time to come back.

She's absolutely gorgeous, and if you don't mind my asking, who's lines is she out of?

She actually looks better in these pics than she did in the show

my father bought her from joanne wagner in florida, so sun, ya she was in it,
ok, so i am taking notes, to pull her broken feathers 6 weeks before the fall show, and then she will molt, my luck,,lol
light on the sunflower seeds,
see, these pics are from when she first arrived here i believe it was march. so i am ruining her coat, somehow, feed her layer pellets giving her a handful of sunflower seeds a few times a week. should i be keeping her out of the sun completely? she has a bit of sun daily right now

and no she doesnt see much, we have moved her a few times and then put her back feeling badly that she doesnt know her way around, lol

She's ok getting a bit of sun, just make sure it's not too much. She's a really nice bird, and once she's in condition, she'll make for some tough competition

Let me correct myself, I do not spray the girls with bug spray, I use it on myself and they run.
Now above about the feathers, I am under the impression feeding meat with small amounts of fat will give them the protein and enough fat to make good skin and feathers (?) I am amazed at this process, thanks Chickn for the critique to allow us to learn! Kel

kellie,i forgot to say, i dont know what causes the brown in the feathering, i believe someone said the sun fades, could that be it with your blues?
