New & Excited about chickens- Southern CA !!!

I've been dreaming about having chickens for several years now...the problem has always been space (living in apartments and No Backyard). We bought a house 2 1/2 years ago and I've been joking about "getting our chickens" ever since.

Well, about 2 weeks ago my joking turned serious. I found the BYC site and I've been glued to it ever since. I'm learning all I can and am getting really excited. My husband has agreed to build us a fabulous coop and we are gathering all the supplies for it now. I'm determined to try and build it all from random scraps and supplies from our garage, friends and the "freebie" section of Craigslist. I truly appreciate all of the wonderful posts and photos on this site.

I live in Long Beach, CA and would LOVE to have a local chicken friend!!!
