My name is Ali, I'm 32. I'm a farm hand at a small 3 1/2 acre operation in south Tampa Florida. I'm love my animals, and I'm become obsessed with training my roosters lately :D

I've had chickens for about 4 years, but would still consider myself moderate experience. I've mostly cared for a farms worth of over 800+ divided into 4 large coops, or my own two specific pet chickens that are Americana.

Right now, I have 25 Cornish cross, about 150 Rhode island red, 100 white legging, 80 easter egger variety, 40 barred rock and an assortment of ornament bantam and decorative rooster/ chickens. I have one very special rooster I'm currently trying to identify and two chickens, Clara and camilla and Americana

I found out about BYC trying to research care for my special rooster and building an additional coop, with the potential ideal of housings roosters

I'm a farm girl through and through. I work at the only farm in the city limits of Hillsborough county, and the farm was grandfathered in. We're greenbelted and have 7 doubles dairy
Cows that i milk with my husband twice a day, starting at 5am. We seek raw milk the public, with other stuff we make from the milk, and collect the eggs. The farmer here is also a bee keeper. There's pigs, we raise for fresh pork, steer, a Angus bull, and then we keep two mini horses a quarter horse and a donkey. It's a full day, and we're 7 days a week all year. We work a lot with local restaurants to collect scraps for the animals, and church's for the stale bread they bring us and we donate cases of pullet eggs. It's all a labor of love :)

At the farm, I enjoy showing people around and giving tours often to educate people about what farm life is like and the animals here

In the brief moments I go the few blocks home, I tend my cats, kittens, dog, rabbits and own two chickens.

:welcome Glad you joined us. I do pretty much the same thing. We own land up by Ocala. I used to hatch chicks out for our 4H and FFA but not anymore. I hatch out usually 200/300 chicks every year and around half are males. I have a couple of coops and pens that during the breeding season are breeding coops and other times bachelor coops and pens. I raise both Rose Comb and Single Comb Rhode Island Reds. Good luck with your farm and critters and have fun...

Bachelor coops! Love it :) My coop #1 has the highest ratio of roosters, and oddly enough they are not raised together or even the same breeds. The hens in with them vary as well; the design is sort of accidental, just the old farmer putting the surrenders in there and it being a high amount of roosters, as opposed to chickens. They seemed to establish a natural pecking order, and because there coop is partially an open fenced area, and enough females I suppose it works. Or maybe it's the imposing turkey in with them, I'm not sure ;) but it's at its limit in general so the new coop idea is what I'm tossing around still.

Hello there and welcome to BYC! :frow

Oh gosh, talk about "typo's", I am the QUEEN of typing errors. :gig My phone is the worst, although lots of them get made on the laptop too.

Make yourself at home here! And good luck with all your poultry adventures including your special rooster.

Hop up on the roost bar, we've saved you a spot! :)
