Hi there, we are Conlin Family Farm. We just got our farm in southeast Michigan last May, and bought our first chickens in June 2020.
We started with 10 chicks from Tractor Supply. We got 3 australorps, and 7 “Americaunas”. I’m pretty sure they are actually Easter eggers.
In the last month or so, we have added 3 pied guinea fowl, 2 lavender guineas, 4 crested cream leg bar hens, one CCL rooster, 1 buff Orpington, 3 light brahmas, a salmon Faverolles, 2 black sex links, and a barred rock hen.
Our coop is 2 horse stalls that have been converted with wire caging, led lights, and several perches and nesting boxes. It is a total of 240 square feet. Our ground covering is pine shavings and we feed them a mix of egg-layer and high protein Turkey feed from a local mill.
The birds have access to a ~8000sf indoor horse arena and barn, as well as about 6 cleared acres of garden and pasture land. We also have another 6 acres of woods that the chickens sometimes wander into.
We are really loving raising poultry so far. We eventually plan to breed our CCL flock, and to sell our excess eggs at our garden stand. We came to this site to try to get some recommendations about some health issues with our rooster, but hope to stay for a long time and keep learning as much as we can.
