I have a 5yr old bantam silkie and a 2 year old bantam frizzle. I recently added a bluebell chick (now 15weeks old or so and a warren chick 17weeksold)
My frizzle is a bit nearly, she even jumps at my dog on occasion. She was chasing the chicks as did the silkie for a while but they all settled down. The frizzle chases the chicks away over food, but otherwise they are relatively settled.
The past 2 days however it appears my silkie who has always been the boss, has gone broody as she is staying in the coop most of the time. I will se brood her shortly when the weather isn't so bad. However she came out when I was cleaning the coop.... And promptly her and the frizzle were having a full blown scrap. I did separate them and they started again. This has happened again today and the silkie is running away now and the frizzle chasing.
This has never happened before, they have always been the best of friends and in separable since I added the frizzle! Can anyone explain what is going on and what the best thing to do is please! I don't want to have any injuries etc.
Many thanks

I have two silver laced Wyandottes that were hatch mates. They have always been together and protected each other from the other girls, but now that they both have started to lay in the last two months hormones are raging and they are fighting over little things. I read when they start laying their hormones are going crazy and it's common to have pecking order disagreements so maybe with your one girl being broody her hormones are raging and they are just having some pecking order issues again. As long as they aren't drawing blood or doing any real damage I would just let them work it out.

Honestly there's still a lot of pecking and aggressiveness in my flock still! What happened is they ended up splitting into three different flocks with seperate hierarchies among them. For example, my eldest hen stays alone or with my youngest rooster & hates everyone else. She's Queen of everyone & her little flock. Then my two sister seramas stick together but the queen is the slightly larger one, then my four serama youngsters who stick together as well. I could never figure out how to combine them so I leave them be & mingle when they want. Its much happier for everyone as it is, even as annoying as it is

When a hen goes broody it messes up the pecking order, you are having trouble because there's not many chickens to displace the fighting, unless someone is bleeding I would stay out of it, bantams make more noise than actually causing any injuries. If you start to try to micromanage the chicken politics it will drive you insane. Separate only if there are injuries, and make sure they can still see the injured.

Thank you. I suppose where before there was a super submissive tiny bantam and the other 2 there was never an issue between the older birds as the frizzle was only less than a year old, now she's growing up! I will keep an eye on them and hopefully will all be ok!
Thank you
