New flock, but they’re sick

Not all respiratory infections are Mycoplasmas. But they are very common. They are the tiniest bacteria out there, and they can survive drying and still be contagious. They tend to evade drug intervention due to their not having any cell walls. That also makes them hard to identify in the lab. But they are easily killed by bleach solution or alcohol.

Two types of Mycoplasma affect chickens, and it's true that once infected, those cells are in the chicken for life. One is Mycoplasma gallisepticum, the other is Mycoplasma synoviae, affecting egg laying and causing fluid retention in the feet and legs. Tylan or tylosin are the most effective antibiotics.

Since you aren't attached to these new birds, culling is probably a wise move.
