New flock in Virginia, send help! :)

My husband and I have been thinking about chickens for years... he just turned to me last well and was like 'why not now?'

I have 12 peeps in my living room now, 6 rhode island reds and 6 plymouth rocks. Pasty butt is a serious thing and boy did i grow patience with that. Poor little things.

My husband and I live on almost 5 acres in rural Virginia and already have 1 cat and 2 dogs (border collie & brittany spaniel). My wonderful husband is frantically building a coop near our garden. This is where he stumbled upon this group and got some great ideas for coops!

Just curious if anyone is out in our neck of the woods - Frederick County, VA? Thank you in advance for anyone's and everyone's help while we enjoy this crazy chicken ride!
 
I can relate to your experience with the dreaded pasty butt and with brooding your chicks indoors. Isn't it amazing how much "dust" those little lovelies can produce?

My first flock had a Rhode Island Red and a Plymouth Barred Rock, and I really enjoyed both. I bet you will, too.

Congrats on having such a smart husband -- who not only made the right decision about getting chicks but also has the ability to build a coop and to recognize what a great and helpful community this is!
