Hello,
I'm new to chicken raising, only been doing it for about 8 months. We received 10 hatched chicks from our friends that raise chickens in Southern Oregon. They are a mix of Rhode Island Red, Orpington, and something else I can't quite remember. After harvesting some roosters, we currently have six hens and one rooster.
I found out about Back Yard Chickens because they're my go-to source when my husband and I have a chicken question. We do a lot of gardening and food preservation, and might eventually get a Turkey each year for Thanksgiving, a few goats for milking, but that's about all our little acre can handle.
My husband is allergic to dogs and cats, so it's just us and the chickens, and we both work from home, so we socialize with the fluffy-butts quite a bit.
Nice to meet you all!
