So, I re-homed my Ancona drake. He was just too enthusiastic for my small flock & everyone was paying the price.
I found a great BYCer to take him into her large Ancona flock & he looked so happy yesterday with all of those other ducks to quack at.
I brought home a Buff duck, who is SO different from my Anconas. I keep looking into the duck yard & it feels like there is an alien in the pen. She has been laying, and I hope she shows my girls how, they are taking forever to start.

Here she is with the gals:

She is a lot more laid back than the Anconas - unless she is just still scared to death.

She seems much "duckier" than my stocky necked Anconas.

I hope she doesn't mind the change of scenery too much. She was on a beautiful 6th generation dairy farm on the coast. Becoming a garden duck may seem a bit of a demotion. She enjoyed the fallen apples under the tree & swimming in the yard puddle, though.
The only question now is what to call her...

Great Photos!

Thanks, guys.
I was so worried about my ducks & the big change but today I went out to clean the pen & there was a duck egg in the yard!

I thought it was a little small for a girl who's been laying, but figured it was because of her molt.

Well, I started to pour out the pool &

another duck egg was floating in it!

That one was much larger, so I think it is probably the Buff, and my Anconas laid an egg!

Maybe their drake was stressing them out as much as he was the rest of us.

I found the Buffs we adopted a couple of months ago are pretty calm, and have a calming effect on the Runners. They're not comatose, mind you, but seem a little more content when they are confined to the Day Pen.

Enjoy naming the new girl! Ours came with names - Romy and Michele.
