Hello, I am going to be starting a new flock and thus far only have the spot picked out for the coop and ground leveled(ish). I decided to get into chickens for their eggs and because my daughter loves chickens, especially silkies. My brother-in-law has them and for some reason they just seem better than store bought.

I think I finally have my flock picked out: Black Copper Marans, Ameraucana, Black Silkies for my daughter and I am between Golden Comets and Buff Orpingtons. I will attempt to keep my flock at or around 15 but I have been following some of the posts on BYC and there seems to be a "chicken math" factor, so we will see:)

Thanks!

Chicken Math is a good thing.

Thanks for the warm welcomes! I will post pics of the coop and the chicks when they become available.

Thanks again!

Yes, chicken math will get you eventually

. If you think you are space-limited to 15, you may want to start with 10. After hanging around this site, you may decide you HAVE TO HAVE breeds X or Y and can add them with less trouble. If you are not space limited, start with 15, take good notes of how you would change your coop the next time you build one, and you will be ready to add more as needed!
Somehow the coop is never perfect

Sounds like a fun mix of breeds. Enjoy!
