If you are surrounded by farmland, it might be possible to buy a bit of it to add to what you have. Never hurts to ask, anyway.

Citygal, you don't want two acres, think ten, at least!!!
And check zoning first, absolutely. We had ten acres, and felt crowded, and moved to fifty. Much nicer! Small house, lotsa land, zoned farm, so any critters are fine.

Anything over 2 acres would of course be even better, but it’s a matter of finding it in the right spot; I don’t want to be too far away from a grocery store!![]()
Our closest grocery store is 8 miles. In 15-20 minutes we can be in the suburbs and in 30 minutes we can be in downtown Kansas City. It was important for us too. The more we looked, the more we figured out what we really wanted/needed. We started looking at 2, quickly expanded to 5-10. It wasn’t a quick search, it took almost 6 months and this was the 3rd house we put an offer in on but I’m glad it worked out the way it did. You’ll find the right place!
I looked at a lot of places, before taking DH to the most likely six or so. The man who hates to shop went for the fifth place he looked at, and we are still here 27 years later. It was about the land, and privacy, and a house that was doable.
