A flock of chickens wandered into my yard - 2 roosters, 3 cockerel, and two pullets. There was the mother hen but unfortunately a predator got her. A very kind neighbor is giving me a coop and run for them. I am not new to raising chickens but haven't had any in several years so I have a few questions:

1. What kind of chickens are these? One of the roosters has a straight comb and the other seems to have what looks like a buttercup comb. They look a lot like the Gypsy chickens I n Key West, FL. I live in Alabama.

2. Anything I should know or be aware of trying to keep this flock? I plan on keeping only one cockerel and the two pullets. Then I will let "chicken math" take over.

Thank you in advance 20170818_073220[1].jpg 20170818_073205[1].jpg 20170818_073156[1].jpg

They look like games or mixes to me.
I have never caught a flock of wandering chickens before, so I can't give you advice on that. Good luck!!!:thumbsup
I wish chickens could just wander into our yard like that...

I agree, they don't look purebred, but there seems to be some sort of game, especially in that one rooster with the red neck.
do they seem tame ?
I am guessing somebody dumped them.

enjoy your new chickens of choice and make lots of soup out of the rest.

They follow me all around the yard. Looking for a hand out I guess.
