(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
I am! This will be my first ever backyard flock even though I've been researching and reading about it (both here and in published books) for years.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
I have five chicks that I am raising. They are currently one week old, and I got them at one day old.
(3) What breeds do you have?
I decided I wanted a mixed flock so I got one of each:
-Chocolate Sexlink
-Amberlink
-Crested Cream Legbar
-Blue Copper Maran
-Olive Egger
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
I'm looking forward to egg collection and making my own compost for our garden!
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
I vegetable garden and enjoy flower gardening as well. I'm not sure if I'd call it a hobby, but I am also an extensive researcher whenever I take on something new and want to be an expert so I'm looking forward to being able to read all the posts and also ask my own questions!
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
I have a young kiddo and a partner, no other pets, and currently stay at home.
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
I found BYC many years ago when I was researching the idea of a backyard flock and have come back to it many times since, and especially this last week of having chicks! My neighbor also has a backyard flock and recommended I finally join instead of just reading and absorbing information.
