New food!/why did UPS walk so far!?

So about 2 weeks ago I got some layer feed and they weren't eating it so asked why etc. And was told they weren't ready and to get all flock or grower. Well, I couldn't go to the store and didn't order it until Tuesday or Wednesday, doing standard 4-5 day shipping, not paying for 2-3 day or Saturday delivery. Well it shipped I think Thursday or Friday and finally just got here.

I ordered Nutrena Starter/Grower along with Manna Pro grit and oyster shell from Mills Fleet Farm.

Only problem is that on the website they only had about 10 pounds or 40 pounds so I got the 40 pounds. But that's alright, I can save it for new chicks or maybe they will eat it. The 50 pound layer pellets are almost all gone already within 2 weeks.

That's another thing, should I finish off the layer pellets or just start the grower and save the last of the pellets? Assuming the latter?

He walked that far because for safety reasons they shouldn't back up that far and pulling in would require too many backing movements. The truck is equipped with electronic devices that record your every movement. Everything is to help improve safety and efficiency. If he did that he is a good driver.

Ahhhh okay, that makes much more sense!! I didn't know they had devices on board. I was just confused because sometimes the drivers do pull all the way in or if they stop it's cause somethings in the way. But recently they've been doing that a lot and I just assumed it was to not set the dog off but this makes much more sense. Sometimes they have 2 people in the truck too but not sure if they did today. The other weird thing was he didn't even have a dolly or anything, poor guy carried it all that way.

Also I just watched the video and realized how obnoxious my voice was in it.. hah sorry! I swear I'm not usually that high pitched/child like, no clue why i was talking like that

But anyway, this makes a lot of sense. Thank you!

50lbs isn't that much for a "blue collar" man to carry or a parent of small children. I have gone to Fleet Farm and thrown a 50lbs bag over my shoulder just to not have to deal with a cart in the lot.

ON the food thing 8 birds should take a LOT longer than 2 weeks to go through 50lbs. What style feeder? I suspect waste or maybe you are feeding the wildlife.

That's very true. It just seemed like a long way to carry it. Speaking of which, I actually usually carry the chicken food inside the house myself too (at our local store its not necessary since there's barely a parking lot and at this one they have people wheel it out) and dog food, carry everything usually. But never that far. But I guess maybe they're in shape.

As for the food, they still have some left I'm saving so that may take another few days or week to go through but yes, I did find it very odd they went through it so fast. It's just in a large round metal cake pan type thing right now. That could be the problem. Or maybe wildlife like you say but I've never seen anything go after it and the squirrels don't dare go near the run. But maybe at night something is taking it. Seen no signs though. I do intend on making a bucket feeder soon though and hopefully that will hep to reduce waste
