My first post.:frow I was looking for info on raising biddies and found this site. A friend gifted me 5 grown hens this Spring and I have enjoyed them so much. But I got the wild idea that I needed more, since all my grown children's families need more eggs than these girls can provide. Last night I ordered 12 littles......omg. I'm a nervous wreck today. I have three weeks to get everything I need. I'm in GA and it is hot here, so I'm putting them outside. I do have a small coop, I don't use, that I can convert ......anyone have a check list of what I need for biddies? Did I mention I'm scared???? Thank you for everything. Renee

Hello and welcome to BYC!

You may need a heat source for over night if these are day/week old chicks and it is dropping below 85 at night, at least for the first week. You can turn it on at night only in the corner of the coop and they can use it or not. If you use a brooder, this same applies.

You will need chick starter food, a waterer, some sort of bedding. Grass hay works nice it has less tendancy to get wet and dirty fast.

This should get you started. If you have questions about them along the way, be sure to ask. And don't be nervous, everything will be ok! :)

Great advice. I will also add predator safety. Make sure snakes and other nasties can't get to them. If you plan to feed them any treats you will need chick grit for them also.

Don't worry. We were all in your shoes once upon a time. It's okay to be nervous. Just remember that some absurdities and mistakes will happen along the way but in all honesty, it ain't rocket science.

Welcome to the forum and please, like Two Crows said, we are here to answer questions and love to help new chicken parents. Don't worry, you will do fine.
