Hey there, I’ve been lurking here for a while so I figured I’d join up. From the Alaska Interior as my username reflects, and planning to get some chickens/ducks next year. Might even try my hand at turkeys and geese in time.

Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?

Not new to chickens but don’t have any currently. We had chickens and ducks as early as I can remember until I left home (Northern Midwest USA)

What breeds do you have?

None at the moment, but for chickens we had mostly Rhode Island Reds and Barred Rocks with a couple Araucanas, Leghorns, and Buff Orpingtons as well. For ducks we had Pekins, Rouens, and Indian Runners.

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?

I enjoy hiking, hunting, fishing, and just spending time outside. Aquariums are something I’d like to get back into in the next year or so when my house is finished.

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.

I’m renting with my fiancé and American Pit Bull Terrier at the moment, but my house construction is underway on a 20+ acre plot of land, and I’m going crazy with all the things I want to do/build once it’s done. Looking into getting a Malamute as a second dog as well.

@InteriorAK - A big welcome from the opposite end of the U.S. :welcome

We are so glad to have you here. You couldn't have picked a better place to settle down and learn more about poultry, while maybe even teaching us a little about your experiences in Alaska raising your next flock!

I am curious to know how you made it to Alaska? Why did you decide to/end up living there? Such beautiful country- would love to come up and visit Kodiak and Lake Clark area. What is the hunting like up there?

Can't wait to hear how your new land comes along, and how you build for your flock. As for your dog(s), I think a Malamute is a great choice. Big, powerful dogs!

Again, looking forward to hearing more about your experiences up in Alaska!
