New from Arizona

Hell ya'll - New to this forum from Arizona - I have raised chickens when I was younger all throughout my 4-H days. I now want to get back into raising chickens and just looking for information. This site is awesome!!! Getting ready to purchase about 4 or 5 chicks this week. Looking for good egg layers (barred rocks and arucana's).

Needing to build a coop also.

Just FYI...if you get your chicks from a feed store or mainstream hatchery, they sell "Araucana" and "Ameraucana" chicks that are actually Easter Eggers (EE for short around here). It's not a bad thing if you are going for blue/green eggs, but if you are specifically wanting one of those breeds, find a breeder to play it safe.

I have Barred Rock hens and EE hens (which were sold as Ameraucana's) and both breeds are great layers with wonderful personalities. You won't be disappointed!
