Hello all!
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
I’ve been chicken-sitting for two sets of neighbors when they are away for about a year, and am finally going to get my own (coop is being delivered in 3 weeks!)
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
Zero (will be starting with about 12 chicks!)
(3) What breeds do you have?
Hoping to get a few of each: Black Australorp, Wyandotte (silver or gold), Plymouth Rock, Welsummer, Americauna, and possibly Speckled Sussex, Marans, or Olive Egger.
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
I am very excited to produce my own eggs and am enchanted with drinking my coffee watching chickens do their thing. They are such interesting and beautiful animals!
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
I have a very large vegetable garden and am getting enough extra to start a farm stand. I also enjoy reading and cooking.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
I have 2 rescue dogs. Any advice on how to introduce them to chickens would be great! They keep the deer/squirrels out of the yard but ignore the birds who fly in the fence to forage or eat from the feeder...
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
