Hello all,
I've been a lurker at BYC for quite awhile and decided to register for the forums today. We are a family of eight living in central Washington state and after talking for several years about having chickens we took the plunge this year.
We started with 5 chicks from the local feed store and lost 4 a couple of months ago to dogs when the gate was accidentally left open and the chickens ventured out. We also added 10 Rhode Island Red chicks at the end of May. So, now there are 10 hens and 1 surprise rooster. Our surviving unknown hen (black with green tints to the feathers) laid her first couple of eggs this past weekend so our kids are very excited.
