New from Concord, California

Hello Peggy! Congratulations on your new chicks. You've come to the right place to get answers for chicken questions.

With the heat we'll be having this week, make sure they have shade and plenty of water to stay cool if you have the chicks outside. I started putting mine outside in a ground cage on warm days at 2 weeks, but they spent nights in the garage until they got old enough for the coop. They love being outside and it's so fun to watch their antics. Just always be alert for predators, cats and dogs being a big daytime concern if you're in a suburban neighborhood.

Check out the California - Northern thread. It's very active with lots of great folks, several of them living quite near you. You can get lots of great advice here that's specific for our climate as well. I know everyone will be happy to meet you! Hope to see you there.

Best wishes!
