Hi there! We are a family of four with two daughters, 10 and 7. We moved into our country home from the city almost a year ago. We wanted to start a bit of homesteading and decided to start with chickens. None if us have ever had chickens, so we are welcome to any advice you have. We just bought a ready set up coop with two hend about 3 years old, a Red Star and a Black Austrolorp. Unfortunately, something got the Red Star the day we got them, and the one seems to be very unhappy and lonely. We just bought four chicks to be introduced to the hen in the spring, but are worried about her in the meantime.
G’Day from down under Matoe.. :frow Welcome!

I hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun.

I note you mention you are in Eastern Pennsylvania but if you include your general location on your profile, this will assist others. Location, climate, season etc can be important factors when members are responding to any questions you may have and vice versa.

You might want to also Find Your State Thread and pop in and say hello.

BYC has a Learning Centre and also Topic of the Week discussions which I have found to be a great resource, informative and sometimes entertaining; so definitely worth checking out.

Best wishes and good luck!
