Hi, welcome to BYC!

Always nice to see another Floridian here!

Our hot, humid weather can make things really uncomfortable for birds. You'll know they are getting hot when they pant and hold their wings out to the side. We do several things to try keeping our girls comfortable:
* Give them shade, as much natural or man-made shade as possible
* They have a plastic dishwashing tub about 4-5" deep filled with water...they like to stand in it
* Give them cool treats like melon, cucumbers, grapes (mine even like some frozen vegetables)
* Have extra waterers out and keep the water fresh. The water gets warm during the day so we change it out 2-3 times a day
* Try not to get them too excited during the heat of the day.
* I only take our girls out for supervised free ranging during the early morning or late afternoon...I avoid taking them out in the middle of the day. Since most of our run is shaded and covered, they're better off resting or dirt bathing in the run
* Try to keep the coop cool. Our coop has 2 doors, one on each side and we use a box fan at each end to circulate the air. We replace the solid panel in the back door with hardware cloth (and put the panel back in for winter). Keep the coop clean so ammonia smells don't build up.
* Sometimes I'll spray the floor of the run down with the hose to cool it

I'm sure there are a lot more ideas but those are the ones off the top of my head. Come ask over on the FL thread and see what ideas you can get!

^^^ X2 There she is! @NorthFLChick always has great suggestions and is very knowledgeable. I can add that I put a frozen water bottle in my waterers in the am so the water stays cool all day. I do the same with their foot bath water pan. a chicken can dispel or absorb a LOT of heat through their feet. See you on the threads!
