Hello!! I have FINALLY joined BYC, though the amount of help, reassurance and knowledge you guys have helped me out with already is awesome. Every google search I type regarding anything chicken/duck-related leads me here to just what I'm looking for. So, I decided, why not join?
I had wanted chickens since we moved to this house almost three years ago, and in Jan (Feb?) finally bit the bullet and bought three RIR chicks. They lived in my kitchen for a month until hubby got the (AWESOME) coop finished. It is just what I wanted and I love working in it. One RIR ended up having a very bum leg so we culled him and went back to replace him. Came home with a buff orpington, a sweet & beautiful black star and a silver-laced roo.
Haha so now I call them my little motley crew. The just started free-ranging during the day a couple weeks ago and are doing fantastic with it.
I'm also incubating 8 mallard eggs right now.. set them on March 1 (2 on March 2, long story).. last night had a terrible scare as bad storms knocked out power at 6pm. Didn't get a generator until 6am at which point my eggs were ~65*F and only four had visible movement. Long story short, power is back on now and I'm back to 8 wriggling duck butts safe in their bator. Whew!!!
Anyway, I'll ramble no more. So happy to be a member finally, and look forward to lots of info!
