Hi everyone. Have been reading some information on this forum and it has all been helpful. First time with chickens. Got three Rhode Island reds last fall. They are all laying on regular basis now. Bought them a coop last fall but just built them a covered run in the yard. Seems big enough at 5 1/2 by 18 ft long. Still deciding what if anything to put on the ground. A lot of discussion on sand or pine chips or nothing. Hmm.

Long and cold ! Coming to an end finally. Still reading on what if anything to put on the ground in their run . Seems like it's split on whether sand is good or not. How to decide ?

Welcome!

I'm glad you joined our BYC "flock"!

That is a lovely coop! I've just left my runs bare, without bedding (except in winter, when I put straw down).

Hello :frow and Welcome To BYC! A lot will depend on your weather and how well the ground drains, we use gravel/sand since our ground is clay/mud.
