New from Ma with four 6 week old chicks!

Hi all. I purchased four chicks from a local breeder who guarantees pullets. They are now six weeks old. My favorite, an easter-egger, is showing signs of cockerel. The policy is I can return a roo for another chick or pullet. Question is, if my easter-egger is returned, am I better off getting a 4 week old pullet to add to my three who are 6 weeks, or wait until next year once my remaining hens are adults and try adding a few new chicks, instead of just the one? Thanks!

Glad you joined BYC! Are your current chicks still in a temporary brooder? If so, if you get a replacement chick (two would be better), move your current chicks into a New temporary brooder the same time as you add the replacement chick(s). That way all the chicks will be a bit disoriented in their new surroundings, and not just the replacement chick.

Welcome to BYC. I would not add just one chick. Even at 6 weeks of age, your flock has established a pecking order. One new chik would be picked on. If you can't get two, I recommend passing.
Also are you certain he is a cockerel. Easter eggers are so hard to judge. While his comb looks red in the photos, we aren't seeing him day to day as you are. Is it always pink? Are just when he is active?
