Hello!!

I just thought I would take a minute to introduce myself and explain my intentions here :)

I recently moved onto acreage in Minnesota (relocating from Michigan) with my boyfriend. We are expecting a baby in July and recently bought to heifers to start our own little farm. I love gardening and am looking for a little group of fowl to help keep the ticks down in the yard and garden. I am mainly looking at chickens vs guinea hens at this point and felt this was a great place to start!!!

I will appreciate any helpful hints!!

Can't wait to start learning all I can about the wonderful world of "farm fowl".

! Great to have you with us! I can't speak to guinea fowl as I have no experience. I understand they do take care of ticks on your property. But I also hear they don't always stay on your property!! I love the fact that I know where my chickens are laying their eggs - guineas are more random. You can get more info on guineas in the thread below. Good luck to you and your fowl!

And here's a handy dandy chart of various chicken breeds:

Congratulations on your new home, and good luck starting your flock. Welcome to BYC.
