Hi Everyone,

My name is Melanie, I'm from Stewartsville, Missouri. We are turning the bottom level of the kids play house into a hen house and adding a run. We've got the land and the space now it's time for the chickens!!)

I found this site last night looking for ckn run pictures and ideas and I absolutley love it. My favorites so far are the "Coop DeLisle" and the "Egg Shack" My only problem so far is that it's 11:30 am and I'm still not off this computer yet )

I've always wanted chickens, and I can't wait to go back through the threads and find out all their is to know.
My deliema now is do I hatch them? Buy them?? or both? and what kind do I get.

Any newbies or oldies that have good startin info feel free to let me know.

See you for now.

Hatching is fun , but can be very frustrating.
I would start with some hatchery birds, they are less expensive and , then if you want you can move towards, show birds, and the entire showing experience.

So now you need to decide what chickens you want. To answer that , the question is why do you want them
eggs?
meat?
both?
fun to look at and watch? (bantams could be good here)
Free range (coop provided for roosting and bird safety)?
Coop and pen (bantams could be good here, small eggs, no meat, many different cool looking breeds though)?

Good Luck
