New from N. Florida - Howdy!

Welcome to BYC.
I'm going to guess cockerel because I've had cuckoo marans boys in the past. They turned out to be excellent roosters with great personalities.
Don't wait. Introduce that one to the flock asap. It is much easier to integrate a cockerel at that age. You can put him in a cage in your coop at night and in the run during the day. They will be used to him in a few days. He will also respect your adult roosters more, and learn to behave from observation.

Hi everyone and thank you so much for the welcome and for chiming in on our little chick!!

It’s two weeks later and now he is quite a bit bigger so I’m going to post some new pictures. Now I’m a little more thinking it might actually be a hen, or is that just wishful thinking?

And I’m going to post his buddy, that I really think is a Roo, Butterball. His mama abandoned him shortly after the little black chick’s mom did. Thoughts? And thanks!

Hi everyone! I haven’t visited this page in many years. We’ve had chickens for probably 20+ years, but I am here now because I have a couple of questions about specific chickens in our flock.

This one is a baby born about four weeks ago to a cuckoo Maran (we think since they came from tractor supply.🤪)

I think it’s a she, but not sure and would love your thoughts! Anyway, she was a lone chick with her mom and the mom decided to abandon her about four days ago.🙁

So luckily, we have her in a small pen and shed at night with another hen that has also one baby chick. (I know sad story, but they decided to hatch these guys out.)

Anyway, she seems to be adjusting a little bit better to being a lonely chick. But do we think she is a pullet or a baby Roo? And any thoughts on helping a baby like this adjust to being part of the overall flock would be great. (We have 19 total including 2 roosters).

We also have Cows, chickens, horses, dogs, and cats and we raise grassfed beef cattle and have a small organic vegetable garden. We are regenerative farmers and love the Homestead life! 🌻☀️🌱
So cute!!! Welcome! I'm a newbie to the forum too, and we've had chickens on and off for years!! We also used to do balute eggs for Asian culture for 5 years.
We have horses, dogs, a cat, 1 🐓 7 hens, and 15 you gins 8 week old chicks
