My name is Jen. I've had chickens for a few years now after my mom and I bought some chicks together one spring at a feed store. I have one White Star sex linked roo, Elvis, and his slew of hens (5 Rhode Island Reds, 4 Black Star sex linked, 3 Easter Eggers, and 1 Golden Comet). I absolutely LOVE my chickens...I'm actually getting to the point where I prefer them over my dogs! lol
This is the first year that I've gotten gutsy enough to try to incubate some eggs, and it was a success!! I had all 17 eggs hatch, and all were healthy except one, who was born with a leg deformity...sadly I had to take him to my vet to be euthanized...couldn't stand seeing him being pecked on and unable to get to the feeder/waterer. They were born on 3/31, and they are all different colors and absolutely adorable. I was quite surprised to see how many people jumped at the opportunity to purchase them; I have a lady coming to get all of them today! Then I'll be off to incubate my next batch!
I'm glad to join this forum and find some people who are excited about chickens/chicks like I am. I think my husband is convinced I've lost it...and my dad likes to make fried chicken jokes...coworkers thought I was crazy until I started bringing in fresh eggs, so now I'm Jen the Chicken Lady: Bearer of Great-tasting Eggs. lol
I'm looking forward to meeting all of you!
