Howdy! New here from North Dakota!
First time chicken owner, hoping to finally stop buying eggs and chicken! I have a small brood of 8 chickens total. 4 white leghorn pullets and 4 black chickens (not sure of what sex or breed, we're sold to us as Silkies but I don't think they are since there's no "puff" on their heads)

Welcome to Backyard Chickens, glad you joined the flock. If you posted photos of your "black chickens," maybe we could ID them. Or you could post at "what breed or gender is this?"
If they were hatchery silkies, they may not have the puff (crest) on their heads- or other trademarks of the breed.

Hello there and welcome to BYC!

So glad you could join our community! Black Chickens sound like either Black Australorps or Jersey Giants, although Barred Rock chicks can be all black as well. There are a few other breeds of black chickens...Black Stars, Java's...a couple others I think. Definitely post pics in our What Breed and Gender section of the forums. https://www.backyardchickens.com/f/15/what-breed-or-gender-is-this

Enjoy this new chicken adventure you are on and we do welcome you to our flock! :-)
