I'm from Down Under, New Zealand, and have 13 (soon to be 11) chickens in my backyard. They are "Easter Eggers", laying mostly pale blue eggs and there's an olive green egg and a pale pink. Then several hens lay brown eggs.

Two are waiting in lockup for the chop. One has been aggressively attacking and harrassing a little black hen, the other for trying to hatch a stone for the entire summer last year, and she's doing it again this year. The other hens are unhappy about this because she is sitting on the nicest nest, their favourite. I have provided 5 other nesting sites, but this one is their favourite. and Mrs Clucky is determined to go on keeping that stone warm for another summer. I don't really like culling hens, and if I can find someone with some fertile eggs, I might have a go at succession planning.

So, it's nice to be here because I am learning about keeping hens, and discovering that you can actually get very fond of "the girls".

I have a question to ask about a hen which died a few days ago, and I did an autopsy, so will be wanting comments from members about that.

Cheers,
DebLou
